Trance (2013)

Boyle intra in teritoriul psychothrillerului , de la Hitchcock (Spellbound) la Brian de Palma (Obsession, dressed to Kill, etc), si introduce in obositul gen al thrillerului cu psihiatrii (v. incercarea lui Soderbergh de noir recenta, Side Effects) hipnoza dar nu frumos si subtil la la LVT in Element of Crime si Europa (tarkovskian anume), ci speculativ in your face pina la pur mabo jambo cu transa in transa si red herrings.
nu vreau sa deconspir chestii, ca nu-i frumos dar sunt sigur ca sunt rezolutii de ultim moment pt final, actul 3 e un delir si sigur au fost probleme de script doctoring.
Rosario Dawson arata brici la 34 de ani si nu se sfieste sa se dezbrace de tot, o secventa de violon d'ingres,
(a ajutat-o si faptul ca era intr-o relatie cu regizorul la acea data), lumina superba si constructiile split si noir -fluorescent ale lui Anthony Dod Mantle, in format 2.35.1, cu incadraturi ciudate, schizoide.
E primul film al lui Boyle de la 127 de ore, reminiscent cel mai tare de debutul sau, Shallow Grave
Boyle s-a ocupat de Olimpiada de la Londra -2 ani de munca !-si intre timp a facut acest filmulet noir si desuchiat, care este un remake al unui film Tv din 2001, nu stiu cit de noir sau deshuchiat, scris si regizat de Joe Ahearne, care aici apare ca si co-scenarist alaturi de partenerul pretutindenar condeier al lui Boyle, John Hodge.
I-as fi zis Neagra ca zapada si cei cinci pitici (ca si cele cinci vrajitoare in aer) si mi-e frica sa nu vad eu in context pra mult unde nu e cazul (ca in cazul lui The Game al lui Fincher care nu e fight club ;), pt ca Boyle nu e atit de inconoclast, smuggler si pervers sexual ca Brian De Palma. Ecouri si de Memento si Inception, si ceva de art-house frantuzesc (din cauza lui Vincent Cassel ?). E dark side-ul twisted al lui Gambit (le remake), care incearca sa trivializeze lumea galeriilor si licitatiilor de arta, a a carui parte psihologica intimista si interioara e superb redata de The Best Offer a lui Giuseppe Tornatore. The Thomas Crown Affair ca un Thomas Cock affair.

Ray Harryhausen RIP

Ray Harryhausen, cel mai mare vrajitor de efecte speciale din istoria cinematografului, s-a dus si el pe 7 mai la Londra. Avea 92 de ani.
Intrebat care e creatura sa favourita, Harryhausen a zis: "It would be Medusa. But don't tell the others."

Cu efectele din The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad (1958) si Jason and the Argonauts (1963) a inaugurat o noua era in efecte speciale, urmatorul pas dupa cea a lui Willie O'Brien (King Kong-1933, filmul care l-a inspirat pe RH, Mighy Joe Young-1949, filmul la care a si lucrat). In tehnica de animatie stop-motion in care a creat sistemul DYNAMATION. Prieten bun cu Ray Bradbury si membru al comunitatii Sf din LA, Harryhausen a lucrat pentru George Pal, si a creat creaturi din plastilina fantastice, de la The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953), la Clash of the Titans (1981). Un vizionar si un pioner de tipul lui Geoges Melies, Harryhausen a fost la rindul sau mentorul lui Stan Winston, care adus efectele in epoca mecanizata, disparut si el recent. Anul trecut a murit si Carlo Rambaldi, cel care l-a facut pe King Kong versiunea 1976. Pre CGI acesti adevarati vrajitori sunt cei care ne-au incintat copilaria, si Harryhausen are ca uber fani pe Steven Spielberg, John Landis (care i-a oferit cameouri lui Ray in multe filme), Terry Gilliam, Tim Burton si Stephen King. Autobiografia sa, An Animated Life, a aparut in in 2004. In 2012 a aparut documentarul Ray Harryhausen: Special Effects Titan.
