Wild Horse Nine (2026)

The new and awaited Martin McDonaugh new film, Wild Horse Nine, is in cinemas now !!! His fifth feature, after In Bruges, Seven Psychopats, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and The Banshees of Inisherin is his most of a western film and the most American and in the same time anti-American !

It  does for Easter Island / Rapa Nui what he did for Bruges with In Bruges, but actually way more, the Island and 'the big heads' becoming a major character in the story and the film.  

See it on the big screen !!! 

Great widescreen cinemtography by McDonaugh;s DOP, Ben Davis in location on the island and Santiago, Chile, also great period detail (the film happens in 1973 and has to do with CIA policy, and Agency secrets). 

One of the year's best, an instant classic and top acting from those involved (talk of Oscar for John Malkovich came out as far as the Venice world premiere!) but Sam Rockwell is extraordinary too. And Steve Buscemi is wonderful as MJ. Special praise for Chilean Mariana di Girolamo as Monica, Parker Posey (as Marge) not so much...

I'd love to see Malkovich win next year but his character and the film are some kind of a tough sell. Amazingly enough (or not :() Malkovich has no Oscar yet !

Loved the cheese talk, great one-liners McDonaugh style and the whole Butch Cassidy romantic angle about death (maybe cause of the location and South America and the 70's vibe), another McDonugh film about friendship in a wrong time and space when you're also out of time! A bit more cynical and a bit more dangerous though !

Great musical theme by Carter Burwell, a bit into the line of the one for Fargo, just now on green and windy Easter island.

Nice use of Hank Williams' song I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry and The Rolling Stones, Out of Time. 

A great surpise cameo in Monument Valley, shot exactly like John Wayne in The Searchers ;)
