“There are times in your life that are so indelible, they never fade away, They stay alive, even 40 years later. My years with Burt never leave my mind. He will be in my history and my heart, for as long as I live. Rest, Buddy.”
Sally Field
So Long, Burt :(
when i was a kid Burt Reynolds (and his cigar) was a hero of ironic anti-heroes, Hooper, Fuzz, Shamus, all seen in cinemas,
later Smokey, Cannonball, Stroker Ace, but best in Deliverance, Nickelodeon, his 90's comeback Boogie Nights...Then The Longest Yard, Hustle, *the last two played at the Cinemateca Patria lsst month in memoriam/LMA 100 years since birth of Robert Aldrich. Will do an homage next month.
other favorites-White Lightning -1973, and the sequel Gator-1976, the one that started the whole 'hick' cahse filmes genre and a favorite of QT who used the score.
i've seen him last this year in The Last Movie Star. (2017) , touching little film. In all ways he was, one of \'em, anyways, always.
Supossed to be in Tarantino\s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood but Burt hadn't shot his scenes yet. He was supposed to shoot for 2 days, playing George Spahn ... the owner of the ranch where the Manson Family lived and plotted the Tate-LaBianca murders. Real pity about that ; (
