Lucian Pintilie RIP

De ce trag Clopotele, Mitica ? imo cel mai bun film romanesc si cel care ne reprezinta cel mai bine isteria si prostia si miticismul.
S-a dus si Lucian Pintilie, avea 84 de ani. A fost interzis si silit sa plece din tara. A facut un film in Yugoslavia (Pavilionul nr. 6) si teatru la Paris si in America. S-a intors dupa 1989.
Filme- de la Duminica la ora 6 -1966 la Reconstituirea si apoi in anii '90 la Cannes cu Balanta,  O vară de neuitat si Prea Târziu. 
Trebuia sa mai moara cinva in timpul acestui Cannes (dupa Lois Lane si Tom Wolfe, the third man, our man in Cannes :(
Ultimul film, Niki și Flo, în 2003 si scurtul Tertium Non Datum in 2006.

Every year, the “Pierre Angénieux ExcelLens in Cinematography” ceremony turns the spotlight on a director of photography whose work has marked the history of world cinema. Since its inception in 2013 tribute has been paid to Philippe Rousselot (AFC, ASC), Vilmos Zsigmond (HSC, ASC) in 2014, Roger A. Deakins (BSC, ASC) in 2015, Peter Suschitzky (ASC) in 2016 and Christopher Doyle in 2017. 

In 2018, American photographer, filmmaker and director of photography Edward Lachman will receive the Pierre Angénieux ExcelLens in Cinematography during an exceptional ceremony at the 71st Cannes Film Festival.

Cannes 71: Solo: A Star Wars Story

ok. gone Solo, at leat not in 3D, ouf,
the sneak peak of this edition ans the third Star Wars |I cath here, but this one 10 days before the wide release. So...
too much action and mambo jumbo and overlong (2h15) but still there is some sparkling (pas beaucoup tho) and some plot in it-Kasdans provided (with a McGuffin) .
2 movies will follow if this makes OK BO and it will.
Chewbacca is the coolest (wwokie), Woody Harrelson looks as french con with a mustache and windy hair, the Falcon rocks, and Lando is OK. Alden Ehrenreich grows during the film and has a nice smile. Emilia Clarke si the woman, and that\s tricky :) a lot of English accents and a scarred Paul Bettany. And a Clint Howard cameo.
stuff looks a alot like Mad Max on parts, and as it was 80 % reshot by Ron Howard.
music by John Powell, wall to wall, has its moments when it comes to the themes of John Willliams. very noisy.

Lars Von Trier is back on the Croisette with The House That Jack Built -another outrageous, cynical, radical, sardonic flick.

tho i guess Genre people will love it. As it's narcissistic and nihillistic  and grand guignol and revolting, parfois operatic, parfois punk.

Matt Dillon is brilliant as Jack, career peak/best, and Bruno Ganz's voice can be heard from the dark for a long while until a moment when he appeaes himself. He is Verge aka Virgil, Jack's guide to Inferno (via the Wings of Desire by Wenders ?) and Matt Dillon really looks like Dante in the end, dressed in purple red. But he seeks not Baetrice but the essential pure art,l which of course he obtained by killing...he is an engineur who wants to be an architect and like Creasy:) his masterpice is death, or- deaths. many horrible deaths.
some references could be cultish-Non si sevizia un paperino ??? literally, 
some 2 pretentious-Gustave Dore, the Elysian fields, many paintings, art, liked the Sauternes analogy :) a lot of cultural holocaust anyway to be digested (or indigested moreso).

Sardonic Fame song by Bowie fills the air and space from time 2 time. But most importantly you'll never hear Hit the Road Jack the same way again ;)

Cannes 71: Lazzaro Felice & more

azi e ziua Presedintei, Cate Blanchett face 49 de ani. Somepeople will celebrate. Azi e si ziua a doi prieteni, nici cu ei nu celabram azi. E Spike Lee dupa o vesnicie din nou pe Crazeta, (asica 1991 cu Jungle Fever),  cu Blackkklansman. Spike e suparat si acuma ca l-a shuntat Wim Wenders in 1989 cu Do The Right Thing. Scrie la gazeta, zice la interviu.
Eu am vazut ieri revelatia festivalului, LAZZARO FELICE, si am fost felice. Am zis Palme d'Or, regie, scenariu -Alice Rohrwacher, toscana. interpretare -Adriano Tardiolo, debut. Locatie magica, Banoregio. Mi-a adus aminte un pic de Kaspar Hauser al lui Herzog, realism magic si poezie, halucinant, alegoia cu lupul (Ted-no CGI :), aplauze cum n-am vazut decit rar in Cannes, la proiectia oficiala, gen 15 minute-Agnes Varda le facea poze, Benigni ridea in spate-Nicoletta Braschi-nevasta-sa are un rol minunat in film,. Sergi Lopez emotionat, Alba  Rohrwacher-sora regiozarei (I am Love) actorii plingeau !

Cannes 71: Cold War / Zimna Wojna

COLD WAR  / Zimna Wojna de Pawel Pawlikovs (Ida)
-chef-doeuvre de film d'amour .... amour maudit....in black and white, and more black than white :(,  supermastered in the technical aspect, music, design and the period-age look (a span of 15 years, from 1949 to 1964 and five countries). Very dense (& tense) at 1h24min, the shortest film of the Official Competition this Cannes :)
you'll hear a lot about this film ...a classic !

Cannes celebrates the 50th anniversary of Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey

Cannes Classics to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey in Cannes, with world premiere of a 70mm print of the director's 1968 masterpiece, introduced by filmmaker Christopher Nolan.

Cannes Classics will host the world premiere of an unrestored 70mm print of Stanley Kubrick's groundbreaking science fiction epic, 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Set for Saturday, May 12, 2018, the screening will be introduced by filmmaker Christopher Nolan, who will be attending the Festival de Cannes for the first time. The screening will also be attended by members of Stanley Kubrick's family including his daughter Katharina Kubrick and Stanley’s long time producing partner and brother-in-law Jan Harlan.

Nolan will also participate in a Cannes Masterclass, set for Sunday, May 13, during which he will discuss his award-winning filmography and also share his passion for the singular work of Stanley Kubrick.
