Seems that not even Gladiator II is not the much expected BO hit he wanted to have. After the vain and bloated Napoleon and 3 flicks that didn't make much waves (The Last Duel, House of Gucci, All the Money in the World), plus the self-destruction (implosion) of the Alien franchise (Prometheus & Alien: Covenant), and a series that went nowhere in season 2 and was cancelled -Raised with Wolves, it seemed he recently fared better as a producer (Alien: Romulus).
This here is an unexpected list of Ridley Scott's favourite films, or the films who influenced him. Of course there are on top 2001-A Space Odyssey and Lawrence of Arabia, but there are also unexpected choices.

This blog, beaten, heavy, conflicted, controversial and ridiculed ("blogul cu morti"/ dead people's blog) never made any $ and I kept coming back to it just because it felt like a maligned child -was born when i was tricked to do it at Mediapro (see Old blog) and then Ndgu suggested I did my own _July 2008-such eons lifes ago....and then (and then ? ) yes, IT Lives, and Lives Again, it lived, noh...til any moment when it can be erased, disappear, etc.
This year it seems, I spent more time on it, it's like coming back home, an empty home, a poor home, a dear home, so many lost friends, so many heroes, so many great films and fun moments. None pushed me to write stuff I ddi not want to write, I promoted my activity, being that film festivals from TIFF to Cannes, got even accredited on Sitges with it (!!!), my years at the Cinemateca Patria, my short run of Bohemian Mondays (aldmovieLight), my Transilvania Blues Nights.
It's random and it has tags for things most important and loved, from Keef to Iggy to Alice (Coop), to His Bobness, Leonard Cohen Ozzy, Iron Maiden, Steve Vai and VH in Rockland.
On movieland it's BDP and Scottfree, QT and Jack (De Palma, Ridley and Tony Scott, Tarantino and Jack (Nicholson, not Daniels), giallo and Mickey Rourke. Und more.
It's trips and alinland, and SOTD (song of the day), and it's all been random into a design that fits or unfits. Why switched in English from original Romanian It's done good with imdb and anyhu, more than half of my life is in Ingles, so, why not ?

A proof of LIFE, indeed (in deed?), Charlie Watts got to enjoy only two months of his eighties so...think back at Brian Jones who only got 27 years to breathe :( , Lennon got shot at Forty, he would've been 83 now...Bobby Keys, who was born same day as Keith and was his best buddy in the band, died at 70 !, and Robbie Robertson, got to enjoy a month of his Eighties, just after completed his best soundtrack ever, for Killers of the Flower Moon...

Marty is 81 today. And somehow he managed to make one of his best films this year, Killers of the Flower Moon, an grand epic piece of Americana, the closest to the westerns as he ever got. My (introductive) piece on the film here. And a great interview after a screening of the film at the DGA, where Marty is interviewed by his old pal, Steven Spielberg. Much more than a regular by the numbers on film, Scorsese talks about the human existence, the not so dark side of evil and life choices.
And back to LMA (La multi ani as in Happy Birthday;),

Happy Birthday Charlie Watts ! The legendary Rolling Stones drummer is 80 today ! He was always the quite one, the cool one, the mysterious one, in between the excess and the beef of the Glimmer Twins !
Also yesterday was Ronnie Wood's Birthday ! He got 74 ! The Young One :)
Listened a few days back to a song from 1968 I didi not know, Child of the Moon, a B side on the single of Jumpin' Jack Flash and saw a great and weird -psychedelic- short film (video) of the song by director Michael Lindsay-Hogg (Rock 'n roll Circus).
Once he was The Man with No Name, but he made a name for himself, and, what a nameee...Clint Eastwood is 91 today ! Still working and done with a new film, Cry Macho, and which he also acts! A modern western no less ! His fortieth feature (40th) ! Amazing ! LMA ! Happy Birthday !!!
And some sad news, Buddy Van Horn, Clint”s buddy, stuntman, double, second unit director and best friend died at 92 on May 11th 2021. The news came up just today, uncanny. Buddy also directed Clint in three of his features,Any Which Way You Can, Dead Pool and Pink Cadillac, a simillar case of Burt Reynolds/Hal Needham, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood best buddies friendship of a time golden, silver & gold, now gone bronze...RIP...
Bob Dylan is 80 today ! Amazing !!! Unbelievable ! Forever Young ! Are you Younger than that now ? Nah ? Why bother ? The times were a changing into the hellish worse, so why ? Only another songwriter/hero/poet in the same league made it over 80, and that was Leonard Cohen. Well, Eric Burdon just got 80 this year too (May 11) and Tom Jones (last year in June) but they ain”t Bob or Lenny :)..
Last year I posted about Murder Most Foul, his dark poem on the death of JFK and lots else ramblings, and that was that. That is amazing, yes dudes it is !
A lot of my friends don't dig Dylan, the voice, the whining, the this the that. Well, as i told em, buzz off. Now, more than ever, leave me alone (und they did ;(
Bob is Bob, Bob is unique ! A poet, a pirate, a bootleger, a great promoter of his own enigma. Nobel and Oscar, too yep ! Took me many years to love him at his best, understand and care for his riddles, not take him seriously when he's at his most cryptical joker.
He's been there all my life (OK, not when I was ten), but big over 35 years. Saw him in Frankfurt, missed him in Prague (missed the plane MF :(), came twice to Bucharest, was there but never met him face 2 face, bought his albums everywhere, read about him in Uncut where he was their absolute hero, argued and promoted him everywhere (DocandRoll par ex, No Direction Home, the 4 hr doc on him by Scorsese). And then there is the Rolling Thunder Revue by Scorsese on Netflix, one of the latest works on film on him (and it's great) !

I was celebrating him listening to his breakthrough album KILLER, 50th anniversary (out Nov. 1971), produced by meister Bob Ezrin, great MF revolutionary album ! Long time, no hear- Halo of Flies, Desperado, Dead babies... wawawiwa :)
He put out a new single from the upcoming album, Detroit Stories, out on Feb. 26. Previously I have blogged on Song of the Day (SOTD) about Rocknroll, the album's first single, here.
SOCIAL DEBRIS is a song recorded with The Alice Coper Band, the title Social Debris, which fits well the ugly picture of 2day 2.

* What better day to watch a documentary (THE documentary! ) about the Sheik Yerbouthi of music, mr. Frank Zappa, the father of the Mothers of Invention and so many other mismashes and musical anarchies, jokes and revolutions ?
Cos in 1993, on Dec. 4th mr Zappa died, at the a very early age of 53 :(, so it's a cool commemoration right here.
The film is made by Alex Winter, none other than Bill in the cult movies series Bill and Tedd, which had a third fun entry this year (Bill and Ted Face the Music), but a director and documentary fillmaker in its own right. The doc, entitled Zappa, done for Showtime, is (til now) the most comperhensive document on the life and music of FZ. Fascinating stuff, especially for those who don't know much about FZ and are willing to learn.
Highly recommended to FZ fans, music buffs & the rest to whom it may Con-cern !
