BO summer 3D misc. (From Dead Weather to Electric Dirt)

n-am mai blogat, intre busy, schpritz, heat si ice age 3d, sau polemici legate de Politist, adjectiv, care a facut totusi bine, 6500 and counting (bine, adica de 4 ori plus peste Jude de ex, nu cit milionul de dolari al 3D-ului care va bate Titanicul). Fost la Elvira Popescu la lansare cartea Truffaut a Magdei Mihailescu si i cant recommend enough pentru fanii lui Truffuat si ai cinema-ului frnacez...
eu merg la Jazz la Garina -Terje Rypdal si John Abercrombie in meniu, chestie pe care mi-o doresc de cind am auzit de locatia poiana Lupului dar al care nu am ajuns inca (si e a13-a editie deja!!!)
am ascultat The Dead Weather (Horehound) si deocamdata nu sunt atit de impresionat, anterioarele trupe ale lui Jack White rau mai chull, noul Levon Helm (Electric Dirt), parca mai traditional decit anteriorul Dirt Farmer, dar inca n-am ascultat destul...

Night Moves (1975)

am revazut Night Moves (1975) si l-am gasit destul de dificil, downbeat si de nemirare ca a fost un megaflop, anti-noir la fel ca The Long Goodbye dar mai depressing...filmat in 1973 si stat la raft pina in 1975 ! sper sa nu fie ceva de belea cu Arthur Penn, care la 86 de ani tocmai a fost spitalizat cu pneumonie...

Its an existentialist film. Its not the plot which is important, rather than the effect of the plot on the main protagonist Harry Moseby. The Night Moves which Harry can't see in the dark and the Knight Moves on the chess board of Harry's life, of two moves to the front and one to the side, are key to the film. This is a story about a man who is moving forward, but at vital moments in the story, he is either metaphorically or actually looking to the side and missing a vital bit of information. It begins with Private Dick Harry discovering his wife has been having an affair under his nose. This pre-occupies him for the rest of the film, to the point near the end when the Edward Binns character actually tells Harry to his face that he is responsible/guilty, but Harry at that moment and as always is not paying attention. Harry must be the worst detective in the history of the cinema. No wonder he ends up dying in the boat called "The Point Of View" going around in circles and not understanding anything. His point of view has been wrong all along. Do watch the film again and see how Harry misses everything. The idea IS a wonderful concept for a film and where Penn makes it work a treat, is that along with Harry, the audience joins him in his predicament.

one interview in which Arthur Penn was asked whether Moseby survived at the end, he said was that the intended interpretation was that Moseby was eventually rescued and he survived. But he would just drift on aimlessly in life as he did before. (Thus you have the last image of the boat going in a circle).

o cronica interesanta care-l ridica in slavi pe Hackman si-i ingroapa pe Penn si pe dopul Bruce Surtees aici

dvd (Warner): nimic macar trailer pe dvd si nici subtitluri decit in germana (cu titlul Die Heisse Spur) ! dvdul american are si Trailer, si un featurette de 9 minute din epoca intitulat: The Day of the Director

am mai vazut si Franklyn, varianta englezasca la Watchmen meets Brazil plus The Jacket si Number 23 sau whatever movie happens inside someone's head. Un triptic de personaje si doua lumi distincte, Meanwhile City si Londra. Eva Green jucind frnteuzich a la Julie Christie, Ryan Phillipe as Preest si Sam Riley cu probleme de realiate gen edward norton in Fight Club. Bernard Hill sobru, un tata care-si cauta fiul prin azile, Art Malik si Sussanah York (nn: teroristul din True Lies si mama lui Superman) in roluri mici...muzica interesanta cu rapel de Pink Floyd,
produs ambitios de Jeremy Thomas, vazut pe dvd cu bonusuri in care debutantul regizor scenarist Gerald McMorrow explica prea mult si finalmente am adormit...
extrem de fancy si de pretentios, oricum un film interesant in acest moment, si da, asemanarile cu Rorschach sunt mari, mai ales in scena cu datul jos de masca pe gura pentru a bea whisky...

i know this is becoming more rockland than movieland but so is my life these dyas, in betweeen Manowar, Chickenfoot, Dianno & Ottis Redding from the soundtrack of PUBLIC ENEMIES, declared almost movie of the year (together with Inglorious B, Watchmen, Un propehte), which i saw on the day i saw also UP ! the only subtitled copy, & State of play (more on these maybe later), having a beer in between at Beckerbrau saw this poster
for those who have no idea who this guitar legend is, i got one word, Toto ! Youre not in Kansas anymore !
