Hacksaw Ridge (2016)
"Mad" Mel's mad comeback...a true war story Worth telling.
Medic, adventist & Conscient Objector Desmond Doss (Andrew Garfield) saved 75 lives in WW2, at Hacksaw Ridge, a horryifing battle in the Pacific in 1945.
Hacksaw Ridge, Mel Gibson's comeback to directing after a 10 year gap (since Apocalypto), and his own inner battles with his addictions and past sins, is a resurrection, faith and redemption story. The war scenes are terrific.
Things to object: a too classic and long act one backup story and mainly the musical score, by Rupert Gregson-Williams is too reminiscent of Hans Zimmer's The Thin Red Line. as is the atmosphere at the beginning of the picture.

Dedicated to Andrew Lesnie and James Horner, they whould've been Mel's main contributors to HR. I would've loved Horner's score, esp. as his last one was wasted on the mediocre remake of Magnificent Seven :(

Michael Cimino RIP

am scris pe FB pe 3 iulie, all shattered. blogul era praf atunci...republic...
"Michael Cimino est mort, en paix, entouré des siens et de ces deux femmes qui l'aimaient. Nous l'aimions aussi. " tweeted Thierry Fremaux. Totally agreed on the love, unconditional in this case from my part. As flawed as a Mythical director can be, whose failure (Heaven's Gate) is greater than his success (Deer Hunter). Pity no one could spend some money on him in 2 decades (since Sunchaser, 1986). I'm sure it would've been money well spent on film history (Marlaux' Human Condition, Ayn Rand's Fountainhead being just two favorites on his wish list). Goodnight,Michael...
